Training Shift Template

An easy way to structure your training shift and clearly communicate expectations to trainees and trainers.

Updated yesterday

Overview

MISEbox has worked with restaurants across the United States and channeled common themes and best practices into our Training Shift Template.

Managers and trainers can easily organize each training shift and ensure continuity throughout the training program. Using Content Tags helps direct the trainees to the information you want them to know and helps ensure that information is available in MISEbox.

Trainees can clearly understand what to expect and how to prepare for their training. When used properly, it demonstrates to new employees your level of professionalism, care, and thoughtfulness, which can improve employee retention.

Using the Training Shift Template

The Basics

Name

Each shift should have a clear name. We recommend "[Position] - [Day X]" or "Barback - Day 3" to stay organized.

You should already know...

Being clear about your expectations helps trainees stay dialed in and focused. While each training program is different, typically, this contains Content Tags to the previous training shift or specific modules, menus, or items. In the case of Day 1, there usually isn't anything to put here, so you can toggle this "off" using the 'Display You should already know...?' toggle at the bottom of the field.

Example:

Today's Goals

Keep it high-level and explain to the trainee what the overall expectations are for the shift. This example makes the expectations clear without getting into too much detail.

Example:

Timeline & Schedule

Provide a general breakdown of the shift.

The Details

Use the seven categories to make it clear what topics will be covered during the shift and help trainees mentally prepare for excellence. Within each category is a field called "Today's Focus," where you'll enter the relevant information for the shift. These fields provide another opportunity to use Content Tags, directing employees where to find the information they're expected to know. If a category isn't relevant to the shift, you can use the 'Display' toggle to hide it.
